Mumbles
My blackmatch always felt dry about 12hr before it really was. Your dehydrator samples will tell you though. This was all hank of string and kneading. Match made in a jig/machine may be a bit different.
mikeee
Turned a maple insert former this morning with a friction polish finish. The wood has some spalting and tiger stripes in the grain. The friction polish creates a nice smooth glass like finish.
calebkessinger
My match took forever to dry also, as in days. even in a drying chamber. We just got a bunch of rain and humidity, I would lean to it not being fully dry. Here was yesterdays project. 1" comets
OldMarine
Black Match update: lit some of the pieces from the dehydrator and they burned as well as my previous match. Apparently CMC requires more drying time. Now that I think about it,any emulsifier will prolong drying time.Should have remembered that from cooking school. Derp! mikeee
Made several sifting screens today, was thinking "inside the box" these will just fit inside a medium sized flat rate USPS box.The frames are laminated and glued birch plywood, very solid frames approx 12" x14". Pyrophury
Rolled about 130 Bleser Blonde Streamer #1 (100g of composition) on #9 lead shot, up to 9mm. I Followed all of Bleser's advice, granulated the mix and passed it through an 80 mesh screen (once dry), sprayed with 25% alcohol, kept them on the very wet side... but they still spiked quite badly. With a lot of patience I managed to rescue them, they're not quite as round as I'd like but still very uniform in size. http://pyrobin.com/files/Blonde%20Streamer.jpg Bleser recommends this composition to beginners and in his book says it's one of the easiest compositions to roll, I found it to be the opposite, but it will teach you all the problems you're likely to encounter when rolling stars. Perhaps it's one that should only be attempted with larger batch sizes (500+).

OldMarine
Made Polverone from my leftover BM slurry. Harder than I thought, adjusting the moisture between paste and a semi-solid consistency is a skill I need to learn.

mikeee
always nice mikeee, when I look at mine they are just plain jane. but they work memoI still have plenty of "plain old" work horse tools that I use most of the time. I have several formers that are made from heavy wall cardboard tubes, you can always roll craft paper around themto attain any diameter tool needed. Plenty of ways to make tools if you put your mind to it. I do enjoy playing with wood, so does my wife. :-)

Pyrophury
Rolled 80g of Bleser Blonde Streamer #1 over the 130 primed 6mm Spanish green stars I made a few weeks back, total size is just over 9mm. http://pyrobin.com/files/Bleser%20Blonde%20%231.JPG With 20g I had left I pressed some 10mm cylindrical stars, I think I'll use 7 of these as a palm core for a red/green peony. Pyrophury
Tested some stars this evening... Bleser Blonde Streamer #1 to Spanish Green 2 and Lancaster Silver Wave to Spanish Red 1. Unfortunately my camera is rubbish and didn't capture the colours very well at all, they were actually quite vivid in person. I really like the blonde streamer (again the camera didn't do it justice), I'd describe it as gold, has a nice long bushy tail.
