SGRS is as far as I know just a matter of what you have, neither much better than the other. Dextrin and SGRS have their unique capabilities. Dextrin is good just for ordinary binding in normal star comps, and making Granulated BP. SGRS is used when using the Toro method while star rolling for comps with a high charcoal content. The Toro method is when you slurry your comp, e.g. TT. It rolls onto the stars and sticks well because of the SGRS works a lot better with a high water content than Dextrin. Dextrin is more for moisture and up to about 100 mL, then SGRS is used. When I make black match, I use SGRS, it sticks MUCH better than Dextrin does.
