Using potassium nitrate for this amount will not give a high quality product because of all the solids in the mix hindering the reaction. I do not stir, but rather react the cotton in a large glass tray, flipping the mat of cotton over once or twice in the course of a few hours. It's going to be a difficult process now with the weather warming up. A cooling bath and very slow addition of the cotton will be required.
