Gum tape machine

Hi,

This is my gum tape machine to activate the tape.

It is very usefull for pasting shells.Also can cut to half the tape if you need thinner strips.

i attach the wood on the razor and the tape can cut to half.

what actually wets the tape?

The tape goes on the sponge and wets the tape.

Im sure that the tape is dragged over the whetted sponge on the top of the unit.

 

Q. what do you weigh the tape down with to keep pressure on the blade as well as keep pressure down to feed over the sponge?

The first use is to wet tha tape,so i avoid the blade and only roll over to the sponge to wet the tape.

But if you want to cut your tape at half for smaller shell,so you need thinner strips,you can use the blade.

I start to cut the tape to pass the blade and then i put the wood on it to secure the tape and pulling the tape is cutting to half

It looks ingenious to me and very useful. I have never had a need to split my tape, seems one inch gummed tape works for all my needs. I tape everything, even up to 8" shells with 1" tape. Your set up is sure a lot nicer than mine, I have a simple way to hod the tape so I can unwind it easily and then I cut it with scissors and I have a sponge sitting in a small tub of water t keep it wet to wet the tape. In short, I am a mess in contrast to your finished product.

I like the razor add on, its a neat solution if you need to split gummed tape in half, an 8" diameter roll wont fit in the bandsaw and splitting 225m with scissors would be a tedious job
