My Budget Home Studio is Almost off the Ground

Well, I've really gone at it this past week. I recently purchased a new HD camera which I received and am so far happy with:

A few spare camera batteries (no link. who cares, they're batteries.)

A black muslin backdrop that should arrive tomorrow (which I'm not sure about yet as I found after purchasing that there were other options of similar price):

A boom mic stand which should also arrive tomorrow (and will be quickly modified to accept an omnidirectional CAD u7 tabletop mic I'm in love with):

And not one but two umbrella lights with 7' stands, and a third open light and stand, including 45w 5500k florescent bulbs (What a great deal for a basic light kit):

The lights should arrive Wednesday.

After testing Vegas Movie Studio HD 9 for the last little while, I've decided it will suit my purposes fine and save quite a bit of cash being only $25 after shipping on Amazon. I have ordered that as well.

The grand total is $274.38. That's including the camera!

Ok, so it won't be Paramount studios, but it's a big step up for me and I'm excited to see what I can do with so many more options. Now to go back to work to fill that fridge...

Pictures of my setup and of course videos soon to come.

WOW! Thats pretty sweet NHIL.

I have not used the CFLs yet, I have tota lights for filming, 500 watts each so that narrow iris can be used to open the field of view so that backgrounds are as sharp as the speaker. I do a lot of green screen video for training.

Oh well that's cool, I'd like to see your setup if you snap some pictures sometime. I'm hoping these lights are going to be bright enough that I can use my camera on the lowest possible iso so I don't get a grainy image. Otherwise I guess I'll have to add some floodlights and gels to get the temperatures to match up. Or more likely whatever result I get I'll suck it up, I already spent more money than I intended.

You should be able to pop slave strobes in to those sockets (B&H Photo) and put high power CFLs into the sockets too if you dont have the light you need.

*facepalm*. I swear I had thought of that obvious solution earlier... Edited by NightHawkInLight

Well my setup is nearly complete. I'm still missing my primary backdrop which should arrive on Monday. The backdrop shown will then be used as the floor. As it is now it's hard to get video without going past the edges. I'm pretty happy with my purchases so far.
