Question about Aluminum

Hi All,

I have a question about the

difference between Spheroidal and

atomized Aluminum and what effect will each

one have on glitter formulas. Is one better than

another?

Spheriodal is a species of atomized aluminums, which are usually referred to as "spherical". The actual shape of the particles seems to differ depending on the manufacturer; Oglesby has many microscope-made photographs of different types. If I remember correcly, he mentions that spheroidal (not perfectly spherical, but oval or other round-edged forms of droplets) are better in glitters than spherical grades.

couldn't it be said the spherical burns a little slower than atomized?

Spherical having a rounded, smoother surface while Atomized has a rougher surface texture?

Thanks AdmiralDonSnider,Algenco for the response.

Why I am asking, I am making a batch of Butter Popcorn glitter.

I have several lbs of 625 mesh atomized AL and wondering if it

would work?

Thanks again,

BJV

625 mesh is too small for glitter, you'll need something between 100-400 mesh.

Thanks for your input. I have used the 625 mesh AL in glitter with success.

The 6" glitter shell I used the 625 mesh AL.

Thanks

Are you sure it's 625 mesh?

I bought this atomized Al several year ago. At the time I was told it was 625mesh.

I don't have any way to check it. All I know it's a lot finer then my 100/200 mesh AL.

To me this sounds like the ubiquitous 325 mesh with a typo.

@Algenco: sphercial and atomized aren´t two different things. Most atomized is spherical, some spheroidal.
