6" Saturn Shell

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Below are a few photo of a Saturn shell that I

put together this morning. I can't say this is a

tutorial, it's more for getting some input. I use

newspaper hemi's I am not of fan of plastic or strawboard

I feel that they interfere with the symmetry of the brake.

The bursting charge is BP on rice hulls 5 to 1, with a

whistle booster. The shell will have 17 wraps of heavy gum tape

when complete.

Have I left anything out? I will not be able to shoot it until

the fire restriction are lifted.

Thanks,

BJV

thanks for the pics did you hot glue the ring stars in (kind of looks like it and I dont know if they need to be secured or not)

Hi Ralph,

Yes I did hot glue the ring stars in place. I have had good luck with my plain ring shell this way.

I don't really see them going any where as tight as every the is pack in this shell, I going to build several more

and will try some not glued in.

That looks very good. I absolutely love your hemis. They're very clean and nice and thin, which I think is a huge benefit. Thin hemis means that the majority of the wall of the shell is made up of pasting, which has no seam to provide a weak spot.

Would you mind showing how you make your hemis? Do you use wheat paste? What do you use as a former? It looks great, can't wait for video!
