"We avoided what we could have been a very deadly event," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "It certainly could have exploded and had a pretty big fire and a decent amount of explosive impact." Investigators removed three propane tanks, fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, and two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components from the back of the Nissan Pathfinder, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. A black metal box resembling a gun locker was also recovered and will be detonated off site, he said. mike_au Posted May 2, 2010 Share Posted May 2, 2010 It is always annoying when newspapers report serious hobbyists as evil b*mbers planning to destroy the world, but this does actually sound a little bit like they were trying to blow something up. It's a shame that they tried to use fireworks in their device but I think that it would be clear to anyone that these people are misusing the various items and clearly aren't representative of the average user. This is another huge blow to pyro people. I think now it will be even harder to get chems like KCLO4 after this crap. Hope they put him away forever.
