Phthalocyanine Green as chlorine donor?

Recommended Posts

Hello. Tried to apply the same formula of Shimizu's blue phthalocyanine smoke with green phthalocyanine to see if it works as alternative OTC green smoke dye.

Components - 15g KClO3, 10g lactose monohydrate , 25g green phthalocyanine and a can with perforated lid:

Chlorate and lactose were mixed first by diaper method then mixed with phlhalocyanine by the same method:

Held in a pice of plastic within the can then the lid was put in place:

Blackmatch was put in the lid and lit and I run away to watch from a safe distance.

I made a video, but the results were so poor that I deleted the video. Unlike blue phthalo, it didnt worked.

Resulting dross:

That's not the end..I will further experiment with both phthalo's and try to find some formula which works best (except if further experiments show that dye is full of filler material.. I tried to search the data sheet of this product but its not very helpful, same as label "phthalocyanine based")

It may not work with smokes, but this green phthalo can be made to work with coloured comps (that is, if it is pure enough).

Unfortunately today I should travel back to my city and should stay there for a couple of days.. So further experiments will be delayed some time.. :(

Hello PyroGeorge, glad you found this dye and is experimenting but sad with your results. Do not give up!

Are you sure the dye is phthalocyanine (some pottery supplies carry Cr2O3 that is about as green as phthalo, but Im unsure they also use it for cement colouring though.. Mumbles said earlier in this thread that he found some chromium based dye)? Did you used with lactose and KClO3 too?

Im back to the city where I make my (pyro)experiments, but right now is night (about midnight), I will try the procedure tomorrow with another tests and will take some pictures of it to you APC folks. I dont tried the green phthalo for smoke, I would rather try it for colour mix, but will try small amounts to smoke production anyway too.

Cheers!

Yes it was simple green cement dye because i can't find the same brand in Greece.I used lactose and KClo3.

The composition was:

~ 30g KClO3

~ 20g Lactose

~ 50g Dye powder

I will try to find in big stores the same brand as yours, maybe will have it..

thanks for your reply nitrato.we wait for your experiments. :)

Regards.
