burnie
Is it safe to ball mill my sugar fuel together 67%KNO3, 33% Sorbitol and red iron oxide? I believe I have read not to ball mill metals? Well, iron oxide was a metal. Thanks
dagabu
Have you tried to ballmill sugar fuels together before? Unless you are in a desert area with very low humidity, you will have salty jawbreakers when you open that ballmill jar. The sugars all seem to get sticky when heated (the media banging around does that) and/or wet. I'm not a fan of ballmilling them, perhaps recrystallizing it instead? burnie
I ballmilled the Sorbitol and oxide together, then added the KNO3 in a plastic container, shook it together, found lumps of sugar and wanted to break up the lumps in the ballmill. Rammed 1/2 inch id coreburner.
Mumbles
Running the mixture through a screen will help break up lumps and make sure everything is well mixed.
Sinken
Ballmilling sugar is safe, but after having read about: don't. It will probably render your drum useless. As dagabu said, the sugar is hydroscopic, and everything will stick to the sides and to the media, and as far as I've understood, hard to clean. Edit: Now that I think about it. water should remove it pretty easily. I'll check the source, as far as I can remember, he tossed the drum and media. Edit2: You wrote Sorbitol, my bad. Anyway, can't see any advantages with milling it. Boiling etc. would be much better. Edited May 21, 2013 by Sinken
