AdmiralDonSnider Posted January 6, 2013 Share Posted January 6, 2013 It´s also called for in small percentages in many formulas designed for a fast burn, e.g. for use in warimono type shells. You can use it wherever airfloat charcoal is called for in such formulas. In such cases the charcaol/lampblack is included to improve ignitability and speed up the burn. Talking about 1-3% quantities (Shimizu has such formulas, for example). The material spreads well into the mix even in small amounts. Prefer it over fine charcoal because it is nicer to work with, "fattier" and thus less airborne in my experience. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's said to act as an opacifier to reflect Infrared radiation away from the unburned part of the grain, reducing the chance of a CATO.
