The504 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) I bought a box of 3oz Dixie cups. How can I use them for aerial shell lift cups? I took some pictures, Should I cut the cup down or leave it like it is? (The black line on the cup is where the 10g of BP is) Edited August 18, 2012 by The504

Seymour Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Paper and paste is prettier and more effective than hot glue. But the convenience of hot glue...
pyrodundee Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 If you cut the cups down to size - no reason you couldn't glue a cardboard disc to the offcut and give yourself 2 liftcups per drinking cup???
Peret Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Put your lift powder in the cut-off corner of a baggie, with the top taped around the QM, and tucked hard up against the bottom of the shell and the time fuse. You'll get better results that way than loose in a cup. The lift cup is really only for protection. Cut it down to the minimum that will fit - usually the time fuse is what dictates the size - so that the shell sits as low as possible in the mortar, since less space underneath and a longer barrel gives it more height.
Potassiumchlorate Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 For 2" and 3" shells I simply use those ketchup cups from McDonalds. They are for free Btw, I get a bit jealous when seeing how many shells some of you guys shoot, but I guess you are mostly shooting at conventions and are borrowing mortars? 1
