thechewy Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 ok im still using the sulfurless bp i explained on the other thread. Its really fast and powerful stuff. Honestly i hve never made anything like it before!! Unless im doing my setup wrong:( i have some 1/4 in thick tubing maybe 3/8in id, roughly 8-9 inch including the bottom plug. Normally that work fine for my sulfurless bp but yeahhh.. I put my fuse and lift charge in first, roughly i would say 1gram of lift and pack it lightly. The insert a couple of stars and fill losely with bp for a prim type thing. When i light them, they simply explode very loud lol!. It goes so fast the the stars are ejecting like a bullet but no ignition. And my tube basically went cato.... Please help me some one:( btw i roll my tubes myself and use a very strong wood glue, also wrapping the final product tightly with nylon. I guess i do it for reinforced tubes, but that dnt seem to help much
optimus Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 fill losely with bp for a prim type thing. Could you elaborate on what you're doing here?
dan999ification Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) the loose bp on top is likely compacting/settling and forming a top plug of sorts the hot gasses cant escape through the top quick enough so the sides blow, i would expect the bp to burn off if it was fast though.... maybe its not lighting and providing too much confinement, the stars would ignite better if there was a layer of prime and fire was allowed to pass around them before they leave the tube ,there is really no need for the bp on top, i make mines on the heavy side and am yet to blow a tube its all in the construction. dan. nater Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Why are you packing the lift charge down? Also, a 3/8" ID mortar, should only have 3/8" or just slightly more worth of stars on top of the lift for a mine. A couple of small stars like you said, should be perfect. Are the stars themselves primed? Try it again, with just the lift then the stars. Leave out the loose BP around the stars. I use a similar construction technique to make bag shells for small rockets. It gives a soft break with the loose confinement, probably enough to burst your star gun like that.

thechewy Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 ty,ill try with no bp on top. I remember readin on somettthing that said loose bp can bp added to fill the space between stars . So i gave it a try lol. Also the same thing that was on,said often lift can be paaacked. I wsnt sure if it was true and tried that to. Being i dnt have sulfur or a way to get good chems,my bp isnt as great as it could be. Anyways i lit up a few star mines and they worked very well. Except the fact i didnt prime my stars enough so atleast half of them did not work
californiapyro Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 that advice may be referring to bursting a shell, i've never heard of that technique for lifting anything
thechewy Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 yes! Lol i did some rading up and i was thinking about when u make a bigger shell with stars in a pattern,it says to put a little loose bp between the stars kinda like a primer ? Im not sure about packing it though:) also i love those tar pumps u sent me,more and more evetime i dnt have to ue a marker lmao its really awesome and grat tools. Ty again californiapyro
