Just as the title states what I think I have is paulownia wood but as I cut it down (bottom of trunk is 3"-4" in diameter)and noticed that there is a center hole in the center all the to the top of the tree and it is very light wood (which I knew).. What is the best part of the tree in the opinion of the forum as a collective??

Oh, yes, young trees as well. Older wood is denser.

If that is the case then that is great as I found a grove of paulownia and alder all in the same spot...

I have used main trunks of paulonia to great success. My grandma has a big old tree, and I've taken 12-inch dia. pieces, chopped em down to charcoaling size ,and the charcoal to seems to make great BP.

very good to hear! Now I need to finish deburring a bunch of brass media and need to finish sealing my retort and dry the wood in the mean time as I am waiting for a resupply of materials (making 4" cans for the first time as appose to plastic hemi's that I used in the past... What I dont make into charcoal i'll store in my shed as dried surplus..

I too have made and make Paulownia charcoal from both branches and the trunk and both gave a very fast BP charcoal.

Thats good to hear, As soon as the wood dries a bit more i'll cut it to lengths and make it into charcoal then ill mix the kn03 to the charcoal and mill it then wet it and put it through a screen and let it dry and then ill mill the rest of the compounds together and see how it does..

So I have cooked the wood and id say from the first batch I did (over cooked it to almost 1100F hope I did not ruin it) I have got roughly 1.5 - 2.0lbs of milled air float charcoal... I mixed up a 20 gram btach and ill wet it and screen it through a strainer and let it dry and give it a test as I will video tape it to see what you all think.

I'll also post pics of both the air float milled and the raw unmilled charcoal.

So I mixed up a 20g batch in a small container (not milled at all)and here is a test of a 2g burn... Let me know what you all think.

I'm sorry but I forgot to mention that I wet the mix with water/alc and passed it through a kitchen strainer and let dry it also contains 5% dex!

I think it's very good, especially for not being ballmilled.

Thanks,I probably should have burnt it in a pile instead of a lind like that as i'm sure the thickness of the line was not exactly consistant...

I'll do another burn test in a bit when the sun goes behind some more clouds..

EDITED: Here is a 4.5g pile burn test.Comments or suggestions? (remember this is just finger mixed and wetted and screened)....

Right now i am milling 375g of Pot. Nitrate (it's not powder so long mill time is ok) and 75g of paulownia charcoal. Ill then wet it down and screen it through a 20 mesh let it dry and remill it with the sulfer and 5% dex then pass it through a 4 mesh and maybe through some 20 mesh. I just hope it works as good as I am hoping (not cutting corners in the production).....
