I use a pepsi ball cause it's cheap 2 bucks (of course you can get the lead for free so it does have that on it's side) but the pepsi ball is also none toxic and it's light that lead one must weigh a lot!

IMO

how did you make the mould?

it does look nice

nice work, i just got round to making my mould from givat's tutorial, its not strong enough [old plaster] but it will hold up enough to make a set of more durable ones from epoxy...or maybe lead.

how much does it weigh?

I sank a little the cavity and i punched a hole in the bottom to get the paper casing off easier.

Now, it works very good to me!

Weigth about 900 gram.

Thanks!

I bet that works very well. The weight of the female mold would compress the paper if you left it to dry upside down..

you can buy pure lead or get tire weights

it really is not that much

If you want a better molten lead pour and have access to sodium metal, add a small piece of sodium to the molten lead, skim the dross and pour. The sodium is a "getter" for various things that goof up the lead and allow "holidays" in it.

Where do you get so much lead?

I get the lead from old batteries

i made one this week and it works very well indeed, 3inch in a bean can, after messing about with a baloon and plaster i realised it was easier filling a hemi with lead putting it in a bean can pole up and cover with lead, my female mould is heavier than the male and drying is easy if you dont use too much glue, five minutes in the oven and stack them while still hot stops them deforming, after cutting the discs and petals i made ten hemis in under an hour, im so impressed with it, this is the way to go.

it's a rubber type foam ball with red white and blue in lot's of sizes, I'd post a picture of it but almost all of the paint is worn off it
