Organic strobe

A couple of months ago I was messing around to find a easy to make green comp but I found something different:

Potassium Chlorate 63

Dextrin 10

Parlon 14

Ba(NO3)2 10

BaSO4 10

Guess you can use shellac in stead of parlon.

The comp was pressed with a bit of force inside a aluminumfoil tube. (foil wrapped around a rod).

I lit it and it Burned pretty good and gave around 3 strobe flashes / Sec. Very bright white strobe flashes.

I didn't test it in star form yet but I tought some of you guys could use this info.

If it doens't work in stars you can still make a "cheap" strobe pot with it ^_^

Hope someone can use this info.

I don't know if PVC will work instead. Most other organic strobes utilize Hexachlorobenzene. From what I was told by a rather reputable person is that it works because it is a chlorine donor with little to no fuel value. More on the order of it being a poor fuel, not lighting easily, etc from what I gathered. HCB has this. As does Parlon, which is probably the driving part of the reaction. I dont know how well shellac would work as it is a signifigantly better fuel than parlon. PVC also is a better fuel than parlon. Try as you will, but don't get your hopes up.

Anyway it is interesting to see that parlon can be used instead of HCB. I have a bit of HCB, but not enough I would want to waste.
