hi,

finally got the ca to smoke as you can see below.
pretty dense smoke.

tube id 1" with 6mm core,
it seems to have a pulsating burn / emmision, maybe a bit like a slow whistle mechanism ?
anyone come across this?

you get a similar effect with the m83 ta grenades as i have observed on utube.
anyway i just need to tweak it now.........

Besides the irregular burning it looks pretty nice. If you shoot another video I'd like to see it from a distance with some objects in frame we can judge the volume of the smoke by.

Hey Dave! I love your video, I just bought some Sebacic acid to try that recipe; I was doing a little research tonight when I found your post on this Cinnamic Acid smoke. Do you mind sharing the recipe you used? Is it similar to the patent info here> http://www.freepaten...om/4032374.html

I’m working to build some solid reference information on smokechemicals.com. The Cinnamic Acid smoke, Terepthalic Smoke, Sebacic Acid , and Sulfamic Acid smoke will all have a place there.

Military smokes are a world little explored in recreation pyro. It looks like guys like us are aiming to change that. In my opinion these are some of the most exciting pyro recipes out there. Its nice to have someone exploring them with me. What do you think would help improve the burn characteristics of the Sulfamic Acid smoke? Those that have tried it will know that it burns down with Gravity and needs to be in a long narrow tube to work smoothly.

It burns downward only and not sideways rather than continuing to burn its entire pile of composition Completely. I have not had time to try yet, but I would like to begin experimenting with something that will help keep a consistent smooth "horizontal burn". Something that will help the mix burn a little more vigorously with out effecting its smoke generation. Or perhaps even adding to it. Any ideas? I just got some Copper Phthalocyanine to use in Blue smokes, it works great. I will be forming some “Phthalo Blue” round sodium silicate - sawdust smokes next week. I am excited to use this dye , I am going to use a little for the coloring of the sawdust waterglass mixture as well, so the sawdust compressed ball also comes out a "Phthalo” blue color.

i think there is a lot of crap in that patent.........70% cinnamic acid loading.............yeah right..........

i think i got up to 50% cinnamic acid, but the burn was not good.

a reliable mix which will work every time is as follows, but it does show marked chuffing which i have not solved.

cinnamic acid 30
pot chlorate 29
sucrose 29
kaolin 12

be aware there is no ant-acid added, so i do not recomend storing it, but using freshly mixed

sulphamic acid/perchlorate smoke is noxious, i have little experience with it, as far as i recal it was a slow burner.
i suppose you could try ading charcoal ?

i also have not used phthalocyanine blue, i believe it needs a high temperature to smoke according to info in konsakes book

Hey Dave, Thanks for the recipe, I just got a fair amount of Terephthalic Acid and some Adipic acid to play around with ill be experimenting with them soon. The coverage in that video you made is great, very thick. You wanna make a trade for some of your cinnamic? I have pails of TPA powder for 3.00lb delivered.

if you have loads of terephthalic acid, try this composition, lightly compress in tube (preferably with hollow central core)
and reduce the orifice exit to ~ 1/5 of the o.d. tube diameter.

terephthalic acid 50
pot chlorate 25
sucrose (or lactose) 25

Non Hazard smoke study

There is some great information in there.



I notice that a company in finland (PVTT) is using the Terephthalic Acid composition below

KClO3 23
lactose 16
TPA 61


I found the recipe in an interesting article on the net, I attached it to the link at the top of this page.


Do you know anything about the KM smoke ?,

The above article mentions that it is a German composition to replace HC as a non hazard smoke. It looks like it contains Azodicarbonamide , I will be looking for a recipe comp for that one.

After my research and reading it looks like the Sebacic acid is one of the highest generator's of the non hazard mixes. It should be fun for experimentation. I will be trying that this week. I will look forward to hearing and talking more here about experimental smokes. It is my favorite form of Pyro.
