oxidizer change for flash

im retarded and didnt calculate the right amount of KCLO4 i would need for my aerial salutes. I have plenty of Al but i need a powerful boom. As some of you might remember I am making pretty large salutes. My 5 so far have 150 grams of flash.

 

So, would Barium or Strontium make an acceptable substitute? I know that they are used in colored flash formulas but I have never made flash from them. Anything else you suggest?

barium or strontium what ?

if your talking about the nitrates strontium not really(in the given circumstance) barium can be used well in nitrate flash

CuO is also a very good substitute oxidiser

Are you serious? You can use CuO ?? I have black copper oxide. So that means that i can use that in place of the perchlorate in a 70:30 ratio with Al?

You'll need to adjust the ratio to use copper oxide. I think it's too expensive and dense to really use regularly, but if you have it, it will work.

 

The ratio is 238.64: 53.96 CuO to Al. For a more convenient format for you, the ratio is about 132:30 CuO:Al

 

If you just need to stretch your chemicals a little bit, replacing 10-20 parts of the perchlorate for barium nitrate should work just fine for larger salutes.

Are there any safety concerns with CuO? Same sensitivity as other flash formulas??

 

So, CuO is a powerful oxidizer like KCLO4?

Strontium nitrate is a WIDELY used oxidizer for flash and other noise making compositions. More so then barium nitrate and even potassium perchlorate (at least in proximate pyro).

I read another composition you posted a few days ago that sounded strange to me, and now you tell me that Copper(II) Oxide is not 1 copper atom and 1 oxygen atom, but the way I've been reading chemical formulas all these years is wrong, and there's 4 oxygen atoms there?

 

Further, atomized Al would generate more heat than MgAl?

 

My head hurts. Perhaps I am too much a slave to convention, but I really like my fingers, and I also like to stick with the basics of science when discussing things.

 

Experimenting with a dash of this and bit of that can be fun, but it is not repeatable, and it can be potentially dangerous. Most importantly, ANY misinformation posted here can be detrimental, so I hope we can discuss this and get to the bottom of it.

10 parts black copper/1 part magnalium325 and little bit of atomized aluminum for added heat.creates a very loud ..BOOM..when put onto a sheet of kitchen towel a fuse aligned with it and then twisted into a ball.

No, but it is just as loud ..but in a different way.

The ..boom..is of deep tone. It also creates a "mushroom cloud."

I am not an expert in the field of ariel shells.

But, it seems to me that a potassium flash mixture should do the trick.

At the least; it is the safest.

Well, I'm glad to see your ways haven't changed.

 

CuO most certainly has a single oxygen atom bound to it. If you're trying to talk about the crystal structure to make yourself seem smarter, you can stop that too. It has little do to with it's reactivity or activity.

 

That formula you've provided is again complete crap. It is extremely over oxidized. If by a " little bit of atomized aluminum", you mean a full part and a half, then you might be more on the right track.
