Don't you just HATE it when you light a piece of visco w/a 'Bic' and the spit fries your thumb?

I know, didn't happen this time.I usually have one of those long BBQ lighters, but it ran out of fluid when I was doing the vid.

5% of SGRS degrade burning rate. This video show nothing, because only amateur test in the mortar with shell can demonstrate powerfull of BP.

Just to let you know, if your shell fires prematurely, with your big ugly mug over the gun, your face will be gone. This thread is worthless.

As psyco said that video is terrible. NO part of your body should EVER be over a loaded mortar. Stay safe and stand to the side, and you should have enough fuse sticking out so you can light it without exposing yourself to the top of the gun. That video should be linked in the safety section as an example of how NOT to light off shells.

Cookie,

Why did you choose the short mortar and the visco fuse?

D

The mortar was 18 inches long and the fuse I used was chinese visco which, at the time, American Pyrotecknic supply was having a sale,so I bought alot of it. For $2.99 you get a 20 foot pack. It burns at 10 seconds per foot.

Price is relative, performance and the application is much more relevant. Visco is not the best choice for a shell leader, quickmatch is a much better option. However, once it is lit it burns instantly. Which means if any part of your body is over the mortar, it will result in injury. Also, matches and bbq lighters should be reserved for cigarettes and pipes. Use a fusee or a propane torch to light fireworks.
