Yafmot Posted July 11, 2009 Share Posted July 11, 2009 A couple weeks or so ago, I tried to get to the Explosives and Weapons Forum, only to get a message from some outfit called "A Small Orange." It said "this account has been suspended." I thought maybe through some egregious act I had gotten myself banned, but I e-mailed a guy I had hooked up with to conduct some business, and he's been getting the same message. There had been chatter from the admin. that they were running out of server space and would have to change the web host, but that was months ago, and we already went through a month or so without it. But we had plenty of fair warning last time, and this time around it came as a total surprise to everyone. I just hope the Feds didn't close it down for the purpose of sifting through it for "evidence" preceding a roundup of participants on some kind of trumped-up "conspiracy" charges. It sounds like something DHS would do, since they've been running roughshod over all kinds of stuff almost sice its inception, and this kind of ham-fisted approach is right up their alley. Anybody privy to any disasters unfolding, or am I just being paranoid? Hunter S. Thompson once wrote that "Paranoia is just another word for ignorance; they really ARE out to get you." And let's face it, we've been discussing stuff that would scare the crap out of any jury comprised of decent, upstanding sheeple. So, whaddaya' think? flying fish Posted July 11, 2009 Share Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) I am not familiar with that forum or what you discussed on it (at least beyond the obvious: "explosives & Weapons"), but on a hunch it sounds like you needn't be that paranoid. If the feds wanted to sift through the evidence, wouldn't they have done that while the forum was still open? Granted...Maybe they already have, and now that they've collected their evidence, now they shut it down! But honestly, unless you were doing something very illegal which they can feasibly prove, the most they will do is put your name on some top secret terrorist watchlist that "doesn't exist", plant bugs in your home, tap your phone line, and park a survielance van 200 feet from your house...the usual stuff that you've probably already experienced (unknowingly) for the last decade. Even though I never went to that forum and probably never would have wanted to, I don't generally like the idea that the government would shut down a forum on principle. Obviously though, there is a reasonable line, and they are not going to just look the other way if you are constantly discussing highly illegal stuff. I think they would of 'raided' some people prior and you would of noticed some familiar people missing and you would of had the gut instinct something like this was going to happen. On the lines of what flying fish said, my hypothesis would be they would do this when the forum is still open as they could gather more evidence as they were collecting. It should be back... The Forum has been up for many years and they are going to have some downtimes. NBK and Mega are big boys and should be able to take care of things. But there are certain lines that it is seriously unwise to cross, IMO. I wouldn't hesitate to discuss formulas, procedures, or theories. I WOULD hesitate to post incriminating evidence, especially videos. A photograph of a pile of powder means nothing. It cannot be proven to BE anything, unless they find the powder in your home. But a video of you setting off a kilo of HE in an illegal manner and blowing something up is beyond the "line." Likewise, the drug sites. There are hundreds. Guys are photographing their magic mushroom grow houses and posting them, sometimes without using any sort of proxy! Lunacy!! It boils down to a search warrant. If they want you , they need to catch you with the goodies, whatever they are, and that normally requires a warrant, unless you are especially stupid and leave something in plain sight. Ask yourself, "Is what I posted enough to get a warrant?" And also remember that there are almost always bigger fish to fry than you, unless you are one of the top 3 or 4 guys on the site in terms of damning evidence. The other way to get in trouble (one of our valued members here found this out) is if there is a fire in your house, or a neighbor lets himself in for some reason, or a maid, carpet cleaner, telephone repair guy, whatever, enters your home, sees something, and drops a dime. These latter scenarios can be tricky and unpredictable. One of the safest things one can do is use a good proxy service, and the better proxies have a minor subscription fee, but they are effective, IMO. Sidewinder can probably elaborate. Summary: I don't think you have anything to worry about. Don't store fireworks or explosives outside of an approved magazine. I wouldn't store any, period. The very strict nature of the forum is where I learned to ignore my previous source of "RELIABLE" information. The Jolly Roger's version of the arnarchist cookbook. I went from one extreme to the other. I believe that all of my synths have been replicated from mega's and anthony's post. I really wouldn't mind a data dvd disc of the archives. I remember a few threads on advanced primary explosives that ended up having tons of interesting explosives that I had never heard of that seemed to be ideal primaries in that they were very resistant to friction and shock, but sensitive to heat. I noticed that NBK hasn't made any contributions lately and then remembered this comment. Just purely out of curiosity, what got him there? Any specifics?
