swervedriver
Hi all. Do I have to wait until water solvent/dextrine bound stars dry completely before priming them with an alcohol or acetone solvent bound prime (red gum or NC lacquer based) to avoid sealing in any remaining water? Will they be "driven in" if I don't dry them completely beforehand? Thanks
tentacles
I would recommend never priming charcoal heavy stars until they are completely dry - regardless of the prime binder. But in any case, always wait until they are dry before priming.. The only real exception is when you're dusting cut stars with rough meal after cutting them. Putting the prime layer on damp stars can often drive them in - not sure why it work that way but it definitely does.. We spent *weeks* trying to dry some rolled tiger tail stars, and they never did burn right. Edited December 17, 2008 by tentacles
