Name of composition: PM's Lift

Composition Type: Rocket Propellant/Lift Powder

Creator: PyroMedia

The Composition:

75 Kno3

10 Sulfur

5 charcoal

5 600 mesh dark aluminum

1 Boric acid

Any Precautions/Incompatabilities: Contains sulfur, stay away from chlorates

Precedure/Preparation:Simply make the BP as a greenmix (dont mill it, it will cause CATOS)

What's the advantage over a decent BP here? At the cost of the dark especially? I'd not consider it for a lift at least, but I'm lacking in the rocketry end of things.

its good for people without ball mills, as you can greenmix it, more thrust for rockets (tried it on a scale compared with milled bp)

The boric acid doesn't have to be dissolved to neutralize bases. But when mixed in a mortar and pestle I doubt if it is divided enough to be really effective.

It has a limited effect when added in dry. It is significantly more effective when added as a solution. If you're going to granulate it, I'd use a solution of it. If the comp is going to be kept dry, the mixture isn't going to react very much, and dry stuff will likely keep it in check for a few months.

Yes, by dark i mean flake, this is quite a powerful propellant, its pretty much really slow flash. ive made a couple 1 lb rockets with it and they work well.

It is standard BP with 5 parts aluminum added. If anything it is pretty much BP not a slow flash....there is way too little aluminum to consider it an actual flash. I use this comp all the time although I switch the metal up. I just take my fast bp and add 5-7 parts of coarser metal (usually -325 spherical aluminum, or -20 mesh iron, or -20mesh aluminum). Although I do that to achieve a tail. I would assume the dark flake just makes it burn a little hotter, change the color of flame slightly whitish and doesnt make a tail but have you actually compared it to a BP rocket motor and noticed a difference in speed?

This composition reminds me of a burst mix I made once, it being a hybrid of Nitrate flash and Black powder. Once it was used as lift and the result was a rather loud, but not too unexpected ground salute. However it burned slower than BP unconfined.

Moral of the story, adding reactive metals is a bit like making benzolift.

But FAR less safe. Benzolift, once made, is reasonably insensitive to shocks and friction.

Can I use it into the mortar for lifting my ball shell?? Did anybody try it?? I am asking because I have not ball mill... Edited by PRANAB

If your BP sucks to begin with, adding Al will only marginally add any useful power. Work on getting functional BP before considering adding in metals.

You can probably make a crude but functional ball mill with free shit you can find at the garbage dump, and a little ingenuity.

If you don't have decent BP, then you have nothing worth lifting into the sky anyways...

There are no shortcuts.

My first ball mill was a plastic tub that i put A hole into the lid and attached a bolt! Then added what i wanted to mill to the plastic container screwed the lid on and put it in my drill! I had to sit there holding the drill for 60mins! But the bp was good!

Definatly need a ball mill mate! Thos hobby is hard to do without 1! Like i said i used a round plastic tub with a bolt pushed thru the middle of the lid! Worked well untill the lid broke and i had bp go everywhere! So if you do it make sure you away from any ignition points/ electrical outlet!
