Smoke problems

Okay, so I made a smoke bomb finally. The mix was roughly 1 table spoon of sugar to 1.5 table spoons of KNO3. I put it all in a beer can cut off so it was about 2 inches. I put that in a very shallow dish (For fear of it igniting) and slowly melted the two together. It took me a solid 15 minutes to get a slighly gooey, slighly chunky mixture. I stuck a fuse in that consistecy mix, cooled it off, and lit it. I'm pretty sure it had a good big od thrust (Like a rocket) to it. It made a big "Whoooosh" type noise, a lot of fire, a lot of smoke, and was done in about 2 seconds. I thought it was supposed to be a more controlled burn then that? Any ideas? Thanks

Here is another site that explains it (the 2nd:way, smoke producer)-Frogfot

This site explains that the wax is paraffin wax, also known as candle wax. You just grate the wax and add it to 3:1 (smoke mix:wax) there is no melting. The trick is also shielding the burning comp. from the air so you have to have it in a pop can or something. Read the website it'll tell you exaclty what to do. It's the 2nd device.

thanks a lot aquaman. I saw that site last night, and it caused this post in the first place. I wasn't sure if you melt it all together, or what. Now I know. Thanks for helping! :D

You bought it off united nuclear? Haha you got ripped off. They have the highest prices anywhere. Check out www.discountpyro.com you'll see what I mean.

Yeah, the main reason I bought off UN is because I wanted a small quantity, but thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Remember though, with that particular smoke mix you MUST use a tube with a nozzle! If you just light the comp. on the ground in a pile it will just fizzle and bubble with a whole lot of nothing.

With the included sulfur, that is also a mix you neither want to smell or breathe. While the KN03/Sucrose smoke may not be the best, I always have had a strange fondness for the smell . . .

I do not have sulfu, but I may try to add some baking soda to slow it down anyways. Mine burned with so much force it was crazy.

I just tried teknix's smoke, and couldnt get it to work. I used the exact method, and nothing but alot of flames. I added a bit more bicarb and tried again, and then it wouldnt even ignite with visco.

It's tricky to get to work right. You have to keep it from getting oxygen from the air or it will just flame up. If I have them in paper tubes and start flamming up, I'll give them a good kick and they start smoking hahahaha. Actually a better way to use this mix is to fill a soup can about 1/4 full of it and then smash the opening shut with pliers or a vise and then bend it over itself a couple times with pliers or a vise. Now punch a hole in the side near the top with a nail and insert the fuse. Works perfect every time and keeps the oxygen out and you can use a lot of smoke mix and get a large cloud this way.

Note: Dont use the pop can method because it will just burn right through the thin metal with this composition, it gets hot.
