Not bad a’tall. You make the lift too?

That was fantastic...!!

I always love charcoal effects much more and this one is just beautiful, kindly share what composition you have used. You will surely improve lift next time whatever may have went wrong ( shell loosely fit to mortor tube, amount of lift charge isn't much or lift isn't that much strong, whatever).

The comp was TT. Done with lump charcoal and ball milled.

One of them was 6mm pumped stars and the other 8mm. Although in my haste I didn’t save the sheet where I wrote down which one was which.

Lift charge I made from Balsa charcoal and milled 4hrs.

I tested the lift the previous day with a shell filled with sand. 10% by weight gave it a flight time of close to 10s so I adjusted down to 7%. I’ll go for a little more next time and longer on the spolette to get some more height on it. I suspect the difference in the two shells was the fit. The hemis I have are undersized and I had to use quite a bit of masking tape to build out the volume.

The break was done with some 4fa powder made from willow art sticks.

Thank you.

Willow art charcoal? Surely you could be more cost effective. Can’t argue with the results, however. Back in the 3” days, 10-12% shell weight was a good lift. But my shells fit well. Nice work, sir.

It's expensive but at the time I had only made one batch of black powder and didn't want to introduce another process to control. We don't have access to pyro suppliers here. I think I made roughly 300g black powder for about $10 worth of art sticks.

I've since swapped to making my own from Balsa wood I got for free.

Nice shells

Yes, very nice for such small shells. I assume the stars were rolled?

Yikes! I read it three times and missed that word. I didn't miss that they were nice though ;)
