johnnypyro Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I finally had some gerb tools made up and so spent the spring playing around with them with the idea of making a simple wheel. Inspired by Thomas Kentish "The Pyrotechnist's Treasury" I made my first one using iron filings. There are comments around that the effect depends on the composition of the steel filings. I just had some random "iron filings" but I was lucky that it produces lovely golden branching sparks that float to the ground. Following Kentish, I started with: Meal D 0.80 Iron filings 0.20 This makes a fountain that's too powerful for me. I am viewing at 5-8m so sparks have to be toned down otherwise they're blinding. After a bit of experimenting adding charcoal to slow the burn, I got to: Meal D 0.75 C (airfioat) 0.10 Iron Filings 0.15 Rammed two gerbs with 12g of composition each. Half inch ID tubes choked to 8mm. Set up with some quickmatch Here's it is. It starts with a shout of surprise from teenage son. Kentish Wheel - SD 480p.mov
