dgsh009 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Hi I made some tt and charcoal base fountains. (With pine charcoal type) Share your advices and comments please. Thanks all viewers Tiger tail : 20250304_232924.mp4 Charcoal base 20250301_011936.mp4
Almostparadise Posted March 5 Posted March 5 (edited) Very nice 👍. Are you making your bp w the pine charcoal? How is it now? Edited March 5 by Almostparadise
dgsh009 Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Yes , it is by pine. I can't understand your other question meaning.( how...) Thanks.
Almostparadise Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I apologize. A while back you made a post about looking to improve your black powder.
dgsh009 Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Yes my friend , I improve that by granulating and use pine charcoal. 1
Zumber Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Sounds like a hand rammed, for first footage it feels like pressure is not consistent. Second one seems to be better than earlier. Good try and best luck.

In commercial samples i see the fuse is attached to the nozzle by some material like adhesive (glue). do you know what is that? (as show the picture below) Edited March 5 by dgsh009
Carbon796 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 It's most likely a BP or Hot Prime slurry. Nice job on the fountains !

(as show the picture below) Yeah it's just screened black powder with binder ( dextrin ).

Zumber Posted March 6 Posted March 6 BP slurry is primed over top of nozzle and it is allowed to dry, in commercial fountain if fuse is not secured well or if only dry bp is filled inside nozzle then there is high chance that prime powder or fuse may fall off during transportation and consumer may not be able to light it up. BP slurry avoids this problem that's the reason why fountain is primed with bp slurry over top of nozzle.

These commercial fountains usually makes 3-5 meter height with 5cm diameter Caliber ( even more in bigger size). How they can reach that height ? by smalling the nozzle size or other parameters? Thank you
Zumber Posted March 6 Posted March 6 You have to work on it, commercial one is developed by trial and error you have to use same technique. Height depends on many things, chemicals composition, nozzle diameter, compact pressure, mesh size of spark producing metals etc. You should choose some basic formula and modify it by altering things said earlier. Alternatively you can search over here already tested formulations, tutorials and test that. 1
Carbon796 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) TT is not really a very energetic mix on it own. If you want a higher spray height. You'll need to modify the nozzle. Or, blend in a percentage of fast BP. There's other techniques you can use. But, those two will be the most consistent, for a traditional look. Edited March 7 by Carbon796

I am agree that tt comp has lower energy(compare to other normal fountain comp) because of it's oxidizer/fuel ratio is down. I will work on nozzle size. thanks my friend
Zumber Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I was under assumption that you are only looking for charcoal sparks in fountain, if you want to increase height you may try to use spark producing materials like Titanium/cast iron/or microstars with slow black powder as a base mixture.

(metal powders+ slow BP ) comp make a higher height?
Zumber Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) No it's not metal powder, it is coarse metal (titanium/cast iron borings/microstars). This one is example of microstars with slow bp And this one is example of cast iron borings with moderate burning bp mixture. As said earlier ,you have to adjust speed of BP, nozzle diameter and compact pressure while pressing fountain to achieve proper height. You have to work on it by trial. Search on web "How to make turbi fountain fireworks" and you will end up with many tutorials. Edited March 7 by Zumber
dgsh009 Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 I have some iron powder but not coarse size. i think 15-20 mesh charcoal could make orange sparks. making microstars is not easy because need suitable steel sieve size and usually time-consuming process.
Zumber Posted March 7 Posted March 7 This hobby needs a lot of skills, interest, money, endurance ,efforts. Nothing is readily achieved,if you want to achieve something you have to put a step ahead.
Carbon796 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Your iron should work fine. It will give you branching orange-ish sparks, that are brighter than charcoal. The iron should be coated in wax. (6%) To increase its storage life. For micro stars either cut them. Or, screen granulate them ( just like polverone ) you'll often see these referred to as Mouse turds stars. You can make 10's of pounds of these in a couple hours, if wanted.
