My method for making BP coated hulls

My understanding is that small shells need more powder to hulls weight than large shells. If you have pre-made MCRH you only have one mix ratio.

while thats true, my shells havent yet obtained such a large swing in sizes for it to make a difference. besides I often sprinkle bp fines(the stuff left from sieving lift after granulation) inbetween the grains for extra power if I feel the volume of it ends up too small, ie with inserts etc. And the smallest ones such as 2.5" get a lift granules replacing most of the hulls plus sometimes a little whistle as booster(attatched a pic)

  • 1 month later...

I did not find rice hulls in my country, So I just added 1-2% dextrin and moistened with a little water and alcohol.

Then I passed it through a sieve with holes about 2x2 mm in size, I let it dry, and it worked pretty well that way for me.

Rice hulls are locally unavailable, so some have taken to using Rice Krispies (breakfast cereal!) purportedly, these can be "star rolled" into burst using 7:1 dust to cereal for small shells and 3:1 for 16"s. I suspect that other spacing materials could be used "cornflakes" for example.
