I am using a 22 target shooting reactive mix . It has served me well for 15 yrs with no issues . I am adding d -e to the target for a little more show . I have tested 20+ targets without problems . But trying to be safe I thought I would ask . The reactive mix is 50/50 potassium chlorate, and antimony trisulphide mixed with ncl painted on wood . I use dichromate mix to prime the eggs with green meal . Are there any issues with using bp meal ( from the de prime ) in contact with the reactive mix ?

You've already entered the realm of chlorate/sulfur sensitivity concerns with your 50:50 reactive target mix. That's a sensitive mix as you know well, and the little bit of sulfur in your BP meal probably won't increase reactivity overall much more. Unless your sulfur's impure and laden with acid, it's doubtful the dry BP prime on your eggs will cause additional issues with your dry chlorate/sulfide comp. Personally, I'd make and use your 50:50 as needed instead of storing it, but everybody's got a different level of risk adversity. You seem to appreciate the chlorate/S risks.

This question is related to another recent query regarding using BP to burst shells with H3-primed stars (or vice versa...similar animal). With clean chems and dry conditions that don't promote more intimate mixing, it's likely not an issue. Again, personally I'd avoid the scenario. I've never used H3 for priming and I'd pick a slow flash over H3 if needed to enhance burst.

Alotta work for rifle targets. :)

Yup agree, but he wants to get his DEs going as part of the sound-off...

I'm not sure it's going to be that much more eventful than plain ol' KCLO3/trisulfide for .22 cal reactive targets. Maybe add a bit of Ti or MgAl granular for some sparky extras instead of DEs?

Anyways, he's essperimentin' !!! Apparently reasonably safely so, so have at it I say!

You started out long ago plinking firecrackers, iirc!
