Beginner rocket

Okay I came here to learn about making black powder and that was the only thing I was interested in. Now that I've read around I do believe I'm starting to get the bug. It seems like making a simple rocket might be within the realm of things I could do. Is there a beginner rocket that I should start researching?

I started with these instructions and a 1lb BP spindle, and all the fuels worked great except strobe fuel,i never tried that on a BP spindle. Personally i wasn't happy with BP alone and moved to the hybrid fuel quickly,It will increase your lifting power dramatically. I'm not a expert,i only have about a year of fiddling with these things, and i had dozens of CATO"S easily, but practice makes perfect. I was amazed what all you can do with just a BP spindle. The instructions list a strobe spindle which i bought later but i never had any problems without it. BP just seemed to always work for me,I never even had a cato till i started screwing with hotter fuels.

Well I started making sugar rockets with great success. And yesterday I launched one that actually had a small report using my homemade black powder. I was extremely happy LOL my wife didn't quite share the same level of excitement. I have now ordered the one pound Universal tooling kit.

Im pretty much new to pyrotechnics and rockets, and Im doing what I do on a budget, so I got the 1lb universal hybrid tooling as well. I also have an A frame harbor freight bottle jack press that I mutilated for rocket making. I have to say that the universal spindle is the best one for your money since you can build so many different rockets with it. Since I got it in January, Ive successfully built standard bp, long winded screamer, strobe, hybrids 1 and 2 (Steve LaDukes formulas), and most recently HP-140-4C motors, all from one spindle. I get the tubes from Woodys as well, since they sell the NEPtubes, which absolutely live up to their reputation. This link is what I referred to when I began using the 1lb universal tooling, I hope you find this helpful. Read and re-read the safety section at the beginning.

That is a gem right there! Steve Laduke developed the spindle and the formulas to go with it over many years. One stop shopping for free info on how to make a lot of different rockets. I forgot how much detail all that stuff went into. Definitely worth another read, thanks.

Yeah it is good solid info. it got me flying 1lb rockets quickly with very little experience, and on a BP spindle which still amazes me.

LaDuke made me up a 1lb set of tooling and nosecone tooling and I'm almost scared to use them in fear of damaging them! He is a great guy!
