Does anyone know of any state or federal laws pertaining to Thunder mugs or other similar Smooth Bore small cannons? In other words are they legal?

I am no attorney but fed wise i think they are classified as a signaling device. Your state and local laws are the ones to worry about.

First there is the thunder-mug, then there is what you do with it.

The cannon itself is likely not an issue. Discharging it in a subdivision could end with a citation of disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace. YMMV
