New Cannon

I bought my first cannon. It's cast and has a 28 inch long bore 1.5 " diameter. I plan on just making noise with it. How far from the end of the bore should I drill out the flash hole and what size fuze should I use? I plan on using Tannerite for the noise. Thanks for the help, Regard, Rick.

You posted something like this in 2019. What’s the deal?

I guess yer safe enough using Tannerite and a fuse tho :D

I'm trying to remember what we did 3 years ago. I found some Pyrodex and that clicked my memory. This new canon does not have the flash hole drilled out, so I need to find out how far forward from the end of the bore it should be. The old cannon is now in California so I have nothing to go by. I tried to edit my post but don't have permission for some reason. Regards, Rick.

Hello Rich. I'm not sure this is working. Here's the story, My buddy from California loved the old one and took it home to San Carlos. So I bought a new one which came with no flash hole. I can't find any recommended distance from the end of the bore forward for the flash hole. I'm going to be making noise with Pyrodex not Tannerite. when I went to edit this I got a message that I was not allowed to edit my own post. I assume probably 1/4 to 3/8 in forward?? I've got to purchase some fuze as well so what size do I need or is fuze-fuze? Regards, Rick.

Well, if the other cannon was fine, do the same thing :D .25” in front of the bottom of the bore should be fine. And cannon fuse is just under .125” (typically 3mm), so a 1/8th” hole would be sufficient. Look for “visco” fuse.

But... like I said a couple years ago, I’d be worried about the fact it din’t COME with a touch/fuse port. Says to me it was not made to fire. But, I guess I was wrong if you been firing the other one.

Or just really, really lucky. So far.

Have you read the accident reports from the recent cannon explosions at (ridiculous) "gender reveal" parties? Last month or one before was in MI, took out a guest, permanently, with shrapnel. Hobby cannon. Here's a link for ya. https://www.breitbart.com/health/2021/02/08/michigan-man-dies-gender-reveal-cannon-explodes-baby-shower/ Peppered 3 cars, too, but they don't bleed.

Know exactly what kind of metal "cannon" (no fuse hole?!? Might be a huge warning) you are dealing with. Pyrodex is essentially just "perched up" BP with some ratio mods.

Do you have any idea what chamber pressures you're expecting from a given powder load? Or what maximum chamber pressures are safe for that "cannon"? If no to either, then I wouldn't want to be anywhere within shrapnel distance while you're testing out your new toy.

You might consider a $10-20 single-cue remote control firing unit and cheap Chicom ematches (both easy to find on Ebay) for safer testing than having your face near the fusehole...
