SignalKanboom
Would it be safe and legal to add a metal to my salute cannon to get a colored flame with the report?
Mumbles
I'm not sure there are many metals that would add any real color. They're more for adding sparks. I suppose it's possible to color the flame white. I'd defer to someone more experienced than me on that subject though. Fine metal powders also increase temperature and burn rate. I'd have some concerns about overdoing it in a cannon. Hopefully someone knows if this is safe.
Richtee
Perhaps unreactive ones. Copper powder, or perhaps some nitrates..barium or strontium. I’d add nothing that increases combustion speed. cut up alum foil perhaps. White but cool. Steel wool, orange sparks, etc. Edited June 16, 2020 by Richtee
