People posting to old topics

I'm getting tired of people posting to old topics, especially since most of these new posts add no new information.

 

It would be nice if this board would close old topics to new posts after about 6 months of no new posts. That would raise the bar to people wanting to post "me too" posts to old topics.

I find them irritating too. I usually just delete them when I come across them. Mostly they get made for access to files it starting threads.

 

I don't mind them when they're on topic. We actually have functional search capabilities, so why not use it? In some ways it's nice to restart an existing discussion than end up with 80 threads on how to make blackmatch. This is definitely helpful in the supplier review section. We try to merge everything together there.

And here I was being a little impressed by some of the old posts popping back up thinking people were doing some research. I normally just visit threads of interest or within a boundary of knowledge I’m comfortable commenting on so many of the new posts to old threads I may not have read to understand the issue brought up.

 

I would be thankful there are still people who are willing to search to find an old thread instead of wanting their answer handed to them. Especially if they’ve read the tread and still have a question that isn’t covered or have something valuable to add.

 

The search here does seem to be a fair bit better than most forums though.

One of my favorite threads here is from a member that hasn’t been active since 2012 the thread hasn’t been active since 2014 and I didn’t join till 2016. While locking it would not sacrifice the information it would complicate adding something to it should something prove valuable enough to add in the future. I would certainly be inclined to contribute to that thread should I have something of enough value to add. I would certainly consider doing so a thank you to the original posters sharing of his trials and tribulations.

I have a fair library of literature now and enough time on various forums I can usually dig up answers to many of my questions. If I can’t I have made enough friends over my few years a phone call can often help too. I’ve also learned how to search for things in this art and some other places to look for information. When I was a complete and utter noob these resources were not at my finger tips and noobie questions were my best resource.

 

It would be way cool if Mumbles, Swisher, and Lloyd to name a few could upload, index, and make their vast knowledge and experiences easily searchable.
