MinamotoKobayashi
I used the high-quality 5" shells from Italian Onfa and I noted that they have a bigger diameter compared to the chinese ones, and I do not understand why. This is a problem because I have to recalculate the math to apply the correct number of layers. In the past I had the same issue with the american shells. So, the chinese shells are undersized? Arthur
Really just a trade preference. Slightly smaller shells fit all sizes of mortars full size shells can be difficult in tight mortars. Maybe it is in case the Chinese factories use thicker paper to paste? Anyway the burst diameter is partly determined by the amount of pasting, and the lift height is determined by the gap between shell and mortar among other things. With a round shell every design element is interdependent with every other.
kingkama
Italian use mm caliber Chinese works in inch so 5" is 127mm shell. Italian is 130 mm. Also Italian makers use to spike and not paste the spherical shell.
MinamotoKobayashi
Ok I understand.I will have to recalculate all the math, but I prefer these shells because well made and bigger (= more stars inside).
