Flash powder not igniting

Removed flash powder from firecrackers and screened out white materials and orange clay to use in an experiment. I was left the fine silver flash powder but can not get it to ignite. Tried a small pile on paper and lit the paper. Burned up to pile and stopped. Took a small bit and added direct flame and still won't ignite. Lit one of the firecrackers and it was fine so not a wet powder issue

I did this about 35 years ago sitting on my drive way. I was having the same issue as you and was quite fustrated. I had two piles the small one I was trying to light and the large pile a couple of feet away that was for my main experiment. While trying to light the small pile somehow the large pile near my left hand caught fire I have no idea how but it went up in a split second to fast for me to pull away. My left hand was badly burned, I was lucky the persons wife next door was a nurse and she treated me. The pain was incredible there where blisters completely encircling all of my finger nails and skin peeling off other parts of my hand. I know experimentation is fun but you are playing with a compound that is so very dangerous. I do not want you to go through the pain I suffered. Please do not mess with these powders you do not know what is in them and while it seems hard to light now it really takes nothing to make it go up and when it does you will probably not be ready for it.
