Can I use Chlorate/Sugar mix as a lifting charge

So I was briefly discussing this on the Discord server, and was curious. I don't have easy access to nitrates here and making a buttload of black powder would cost a lot of time and money, however, I can easily make Potassium Chlorate through electrolysis, and I looked around and many people say you can't use H3 for lifting charges as it will blow your face off, So can I use a Chlorate sugar mix instead. I've tested it out and a well mixed green mix that has been mixed in a grinder for two minutes takes about 1.3 seconds to fully burn, and I'm sure if I added dextrin it would be comparable to BP, but would it be too sensitive to mill?

That mix is definitely going to be too sensitive to mill. As a matter of fact, I'd stop mixing it in a grinder as well. Chlorate and sugar is one of the more sensitive mixes due to the low melting point of sugar.

Also, anyone who told you that H3 can't be used as a lift has no idea what they're talking about. It may not be ideal, but it works fine for smaller shells. The risk of destroying a mortar goes up with larger items.

Thanks. So could I use H3 for up to like a 3 or 4 inch shell?

Most certainly.

Long term it's not the best solution. I'd work on finding a good nitrate source.
