dlking59
I bought a 5 CF bag of ERC bedding. I am curious to know approximately how much charcoal I will get from this 5CF bag ie how many pounds or volume Thanks
Arthur
Well willow sticks as cut from the tree usually yield about 10% of their weight as charcoal, Willow sticks as dried for fire kindling usually yield about 25% of their weight as charcoal.
OldMarine
10-12% yield is what I usually get from ERC shavings. I get around 18% from sumac.

OldMarine
No, as soon as the burn has progressed to the bottom of the TLUD you cap off all air and let that batch cool and completely extinguish. I use gallon cans at present and have 4 so I can rotate them through the process. It goes pretty quickly.
