Was looking for some thoughts on the possibility of using these anti-static bags for mixing chemicals ie putting chemicals in a bag then put into a ball mill, use to mix/shake and replace the diaper method. starxplor Posted November 15, 2018 Share Posted November 15, 2018 While they might reduce static charge build up while mixing (not upon opening though), it would definitely not reduce the friction as the chems would still be rubbing against each other, probably MORE vigorously than in traditional diaper method. OldMarine Posted November 16, 2018 Share Posted November 16, 2018 Unless you are mixing flash or whistle, simply grounding yourself is sufficient. I have a copper wire that runs around my bench and is connected to a ground rod outside. I touch it with my hand and lean on it while working. I also have a jumper wire I can clip on the press I am using at the time.A plastic bag develops the same charge inside across the whole thing so there are no points in there too cause an arc. Technicians working of computer boards failed, in the beginning, to understand why they were having so many failures. It was determined after a while that static electricity was "zapping" sensitive components. Grounding straps on technicians worked to get us on top of the space race. Then came the "Pink Poly" bags to transport and store sensitive electronic equipment and now..............to Mars we goRange day was all cotton clothing, no windbreakers made of nylon or other polyester item. R.S.O's were very particular about range gear.I live in a very dry climate and it scares the hell out of me when the wind blows on range day.
