Mumbles
Waterglass and calcium chloride is used in the treatment. This is the prep from Myke Stanbridge I referenced before. http://www.pyropage.com/Misc/cardboard.html

stix
Yep, the link mumbles posted is the method I followed. It appears to have worked very well, but I've never tested it. [EDIT] Probably worth your while reading this thread:https://www.amateurpyro.com/forums/topic/10751-useful-tube-for-diy-mortar/?hl=cardboard Edited September 8, 2018 by stix
MadMat
I tried this on my first mortar tube. It fireproofs the cardboard and helps with moisture resistance. But, I will tell you that cardboard is not the way to go for good, long-lasting mortar tubes. Mine blew apart after about a dozen launches. Thick-walled HDPE is the way to go.
