Figured I could share this formoola, even though I've been testing all of its 'cousins' lately, this one is good to go.

Technically this formula doesn't exist, since none of the Chinese papers contain an orange star and none of them use Baking Soda, at least to my knowledge.

(edited: I propose this be called Apex Orange.)

4 Lactose

40 Potassium Perchlorate

18 Mg/Al (325)

6 Phenolic Resin

12 Sodium Bicarbonate

10 Strontrium Carbonate

10 Parlon

The Original Chinese Formula used straight 22 percent Strontium Carbonate for Red.

If your stars don't roll strong enough then you could replace the lactose with Hexamine, but that's only a guess. These worked fine for me as stars, haven't tried comets yet.

No idea how this works in larger stars/comets as it's currently tuned for small shells. These high Mg/Al formulas can snowball out of control and wash out when used in larger sizes.

Still working on tuning some of the other colors and will have more to share shortly.

Just an fyi, I don't propose this be referred to as "my" formula, it should be called Apex Orange.

The only reason I would offer any alternative name is due to how some in the fireworking community frown upon calling a formula by its original name if anything has been altered more than a few percent, if at all in some cases.

I see nothing wrong with keeping purity in name and adhering strictly to a formula, and in this case I altered little more than the carbonates used.

I know, it really doesn't matter in the end, just didn't want anyone getting the wrong impression that I would dare name my own formula by ripping off another one.

EDIT:

Just for the sake of doing it, I located the original formula. It appears in several forms with slight tweaks throughout the Apex papers.

What's most interesting to me is that as the shell size increases and the star sizes increase (assumed) the oxidizers increase as well.

I guess more oxidizer can have a cooling effect for larger stars? Anywho, here's the original paper:

IMO, it should be called "Apex Orange."
