Can I replace dextrin by red gum in glitters?

I want to cut or roll some Winokur #20, to use it as a matrix for dragon eggs. Both methods are water intensive, and will probably kill the MgAl in the comp and in the DE.

Can I replace the dextrin by red gum and use alcohol as a solvent? In what proportion?

Also, Can I use red gum as a binder in BP to prime DE?

Not knowing what your kind of dragon eggs are bound with, i'll guess NC. (all officially working variants are, as far as i know)

In that case they are pretty much impervious to water. So you might affect the magnesium in the matrix, but not the eggs.

Using red gum as a binder for glitters will likely kill the effect.

Well made dragon eggs should be fine to bind in a water based comet, though I will admit I'm more familiar with pressing and not rolled or cut versions. If you're concerned, adding an alcohol bound layer over the top of the eggs as you suggested should work fine to add a buffer.

I think I will forget about DE this year. Seems my MgAl is too coarse (140 mesh, or 0.1mm), and the smouldering time is too long. Also, they take forever to start smouldering. I'm using this formula: http://pyrodata.com/compositions/Dragon-eggs-Crackling-star My source os NC is comercial NC laquer, the kind used for musical instruments.

I will try to embed some DE in the delay of some rockets and see what happens. If not, it will be used as firecrackers. :-)
