Here's a quote from Mike Swisher on Portfires:

"Try this one, originally from Don Beachler of United Fireworks of Dayton, Ohio, published in Hardt:
57 saltpetre
16 sulphur
16 barium nitrate
5 antimony sulphide
1 meal powder
5 wood meal
Burning time can be adjusted by varying the amount of wood meal.
Roll 1/2" cases perhaps 12 inches long, using 3 turns of 70-lb. kraft and 2 turns of 30-lb., in similar fashion to Niagara tubes. Fill with rod & funnel. A little alcohol may be added to keep dust down and help consolidate. About an inch at the bottom should be charged with clay or sawdust. Fabricate a holder to grip this end; see Kentish for instructions."
