MadMat Posted October 16, 2017 Share Posted October 16, 2017 I had my ball mill stored up on a shelf in the garage and some of the outdoor cats decided to play up there and knock things around. Well, my ball mill took a seven foot fall. The permanent magnet in the motor is apparently cracked (it turns hard and you can hear/feel something scraping.) and the wooden frame is cracked. Arthur Posted October 16, 2017 Share Posted October 16, 2017 If the motor has a permanent magnet, then beware the commutator and brushes! That could be a spark risk. The garage usually has the doors closed and is not my pyro workshop. I am in the process of doing some much needed re-organizing of my pyro workshop and was storing various equipment in the garage while this is being done. Update: the motor wasn't destroyed!! I broke it open just to take a look and found that the bearings had been popped out of place and one of the brushes had jammed sideways. I reset the bearings with some Loc-tight and carved down a brush from a larger scrap motor to fit in this one. It works almost like new!!
