Next time I'll try a double or triple break! 2", 2.5" and 3" inserts with some beraq rings too. (those were 3" inserts)

  • 3 weeks later...

Very nice shell, break and inserts.

Can you share some pict's or details of the building process? It's quite rare to see a big shell like this break this round and uniform, even taking into account the commercial manufacturers.

This was made in a licensed site in Nevada.

The symmetry is due to the careful placing of the 3" insert shells.

The bizarre aspect for me is that the 6" inner red petal should have been the INNER appearance but it is the outer!

The "willow" stars were poured into the interstitial gaps between the insert shells and the outer hemisphere.

For my liking the shell was assembled as a bottom hemi, the upper ring and then the top lid. This let me add all the insert shells through the top, which is easier than turning a loaded hemi over without spilling it!!!

sure wish you would have taken some build pictures. for a shell that didn't work right it sure looks good.

Great shell Arthur, a lot of big shells end up with a sparse looking burst but that was big ,full and very nice.

It's very easy to make a 16 the same way as a 3", but the result will be the same either a peony or a chrysanthemum. In a 16 there is so much space to fill that you must put lots of goodies inside, then you can have lots of things to see when it goes.

I'm thinking that if there is another time, maybe I'd put some fast timed beraqs in there, and maybe some 2" inserts as well as 3" inserts. Actually it's just a matter of getting the timing right so that lots of things can go off in a nice sequence. Maybe some rising effects as well, and perhaps some more lift so that there is rise time for more to happen.

The limit for this last shell was arriving inert by air and returning inert by air and not having lives outside of the licensed place.

I keep thinking that I'd like a progressive colour changing peony which started all red and went all green ring by ring in the burst, then as the colour is gone, all the inserts fire.

I keep looking at some of the work by the Japanese, but their shows are so different. I can't see many Brits watching a 2 hour display of one 16" shell every minute, not can I see UK authorities letting us transport or store that many 16" shells.

Hell, we don't even have anything bigger than 6'' over here... :)

Nor do we have legal building clubs. Everything we wanna do is illegal and immoral according to our kind government.

I'm not a member anymore of the English pyro forum unfortunately, Arthur. There were always too many useless discussions going on, to many irrelevant questions and almost no (real) pyrotechnics going on. Guy's like you suddenly popping up and showing stuff like this makes me consider checking it out again once again, but I'm afraid it will still be too much of same as it used to be.

If you feel like sharing the pict's here too, it'd be appreciated.

What kind of burst/pasting did you apply? Do you have a WASP?

I might be inspired to start visiting the UKPS forums again too. It seemed like a lot of the building went behind a paywall, and my ability to contribute went to basically nil.

It's not good to make fireworks over 100g in the UK so doing fireworks here is not clever. This shell was made and fired in a licensed place in the USA (firework friendly state and county obviously) under the permissions of a BATFE licence. However I have put some more words on UKPS forum.
