Scorpion812
So, i was at the local trashyard, stealing batteries as usual, and found THIS. I dont know what the heck it is and want to know if any of you guys know if its a wet or dry battery, because if it was dry, there would be a hell lot of carbon rods to salvage and make some cell with 8 anodes. So if any of you know what this is, please tell me thx in advance
AllisterF
Looks to be a spiral (cylinder) cell absorbent glass mat battery aka AGM battery... http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/absorbent_glass_mat_agm Edited August 30, 2017 by AllisterF
Arthur
Could be anything from Sealed Lead acid, through NiCad, Lithium primary or secondary cells, NiMH to possibly an alkaline or zinc carbon battery. Maybe look for a voltage on the cells. Not knowing whether it's going to leak acids or corrosive alkali or nothing at all and if it's a Lithium battery possibly burst into flames, would make me think very carefully about an identification system. I have just seen some graphite electrodes on ebay, about 6" X 4" and half an inch thick. Looked ideal for a chlorate cell.
taiwanluthiers
Graphite isn't even that good of an anode for chlorate production... not when saltwater chlorination anode (MMO) is so cheap and plentiful on ebay, and they produce clean products with zero contamination. I would be careful salvaging batteries because they could be lithium ion and those can burst into flame if breached. So if you're looking to take it apart do it remotely outside away from anything that can burn. Other batteries such as alkaline contain caustic chemicals and isn't exactly healthy to be taking apart (not to mention possible heavy metal contents)
