Making Roman candle

Hi,

I am making roman candle. I have come across three methods. Visco method, delay composition method and skylighter method where small tubes are fused.

 

My tube length is 18", I'd is 18mm.wall thickness is 5mm. Got all the tubes from a manufacturer who was having few spare tubes

 

What should be the star measurement for above described tube? I have 3/4" and 5/8" star pumps.

 

For ease of method visco is easiest. What shall be the lift Charge measurement??? The top one should have most lift Charge.

18mm is only 0.709 inches, so you'll have to use the 5/8" pump. You'll need to experiment with lift charges. 2g might not be a bad place to start though. You are correct that you'll probably need progressively more lift for the top few shots, due to less "barrel" from which they're fired from. The compacted sawdust from the visco style helps to build up pressure, which makes the lift issue less apparent. When using a rammed delay, there is little to nothing holding the star back on top when the lift charge goes.

With 3/4" id tubes i`d still go for 5/8" stars as the prime adds a few mm. They`re a pretty tight fit with the visco in the tube.

I had rammed tissue paper in place of sawdust.

Now will use sawdust

I wounder, instead of multiple barrels, would it be possible to make a superposed load like a roman candle, ignited at the muzzle, that fire off in succession?

 

A roman candle that shoots lead instead of stars. I dont want the cannon to blow up, which i think it will if all loads fire simentaneously, so i need a delay that can handle the pressure, How should i do this, reliable and safe?

I don't know there's a way to do that and have it work right ever. The kind of pressures a projectile cannon generates would almost always set off everything in there and even explode it to pieces.
