i dont have any silicon or wood meal so im wondering what would work for a prime for these stars i pumped a small 10 gram batch and they seem to light pretty easy with a touch of a flame im just wondering what i could use to prime these with basic chemicals i have most the basics, kno3, kclo4, charcoal airfloat, magnesium, magnalium, and lots of other so please if anyone knows of a good prime that would work let me know thanks :)

You dont need the Si or wood meal. I use primes that are like Jopetes for color stars.

Single-layer prime
0.30 Potassium perchlorate
0.38 Potassium nitrate
0.14 charcoal, airfloat( soft wood)
0.05 Red gum
0.06 Sulfur
0.09 Black iron oxide
0.15 Magnalium, 63-micron, 230-mesh( 200-325 mesh works)
0.05 Dextrin
Most primes when heated up with a metal content will serve well for color star ignition . Outside that ( strobes and flitters need step priming and special primes to aid in ignition)

so i just screen mix this all together then wet my stars with water ? or could i use alcohol because of the red gum. then just roll my pumped star in a container with the screen mixed prime ? this is my first coloured stars i have made i really really like the purple colour this formula makes i just now want to get a solid prime. i wetted these stars with alcohol and pumped them with a 1/4" star pump

Seeing the above prime includes dextrin, I would just bind with water. Best way I have found if you have a star roller is to use the toro method to apply the prime, I seem to get the best results doing it this way. Although it will work just fine using a spray bottle and a bowl with a round bottom and coat them by hand, as you stated in your post.

okay hey i was just looking at primes and the pinball prime seem pretty simple only needing 3 chems and it says its good for a hot prime it says to add 6% magnalium for hard to light stars im not too sure how hard these veline purple stars are to light all i know is they seem to take fire pretty easy when lighting them with a flame and thats with no prime at all so im guessing this pinball prime would work good has anyone had any luck with this ?

Pinball worked good for me but meal + 5% Dark Al or fine MgAl where good too.

For priming either use a brush and brush on the prime or dip them into a prime slurry maybe followed by a dip into ffg ? You only got 10 g). Or slurry prime them inside the shell.

i just tried hand rolling the stars and there drying now but ya it doesn't look like the best coat so after they dry ill try putting a other coat on them the way you said to with a brush see if i can get a thicker coat of prime on thanks guys

For these, 1.5 - 2mm of bp meal + dex will work fine. Or, .5mm monocapa will also do it.

also whats the best way to coat these little pumped stars i tried rolling them and it didnt really get a even coat and the coating was very crumbly so i tried dipped them in alcohol then in prime then back in alcohol then i put them on my screen to dry it all look good but then when they dried and i tried to take them off the screen they were all stuck to screen and when i finally got them off most of them broke

When using monocapa can i use red iron oxide instead of black iron oxide ?
