Nessalco
Anyone have suggestions on how to waterproof hand-rolled match pipe? An added benefit would be increased fire resistance. I can, for example, add a wrap of cellophane tape, and while that approach works it leaves a lot of crap on the field that takes forever to rot. I tried treating the pipes with sodium silicate, and while that helped fireproofing it did little to help with moisture. Right now I'm trying a coating of liquid silicone - the pipes have been treated, I just have to pull some match through and give it a test. Any other suggestions? Thanks! schroedinger
The normal way woulb be to just roll on some clear packing tape. Sodium silicate won't work since it redissolves when wet. For this you need to use pottasium silicate. An other option would be to roll your tape with water ressistant white glue. These both options are water ressistant once dried and cheap. But what do you really need the water proofing for? It is easy to just roll in a strip of aluminium foil (network cable contains a nice foil about 1" wide). schroedinger
If you want to do so, paste in your whole paper strip, lay the foil strip on the edge an roll it up.
Arthur
Brown parcel tape seems to cover many fuses to keep them dry.
Col
I`d use casein to roll the tube, its water resistant and biodegradable.
Maserface
You might be able to use car window treatment that is designed to repel water, or a spray on wood finish of some sort.
OblivionFall
Any kind of tape that doesn't let too much water through would work really
LiamPyro
I use "Mod-Podge" to coat my match pipe. In addition to making it water/spark resistant, it also toughens up the paper and helps to prevent it from ripping.
