bjc4073
Would 1/4'' stars be small enough? If so, about how many would fit. Also how long of a delay; 1.5 secs. like can shells?
LiamPyro
1/4" stars are great for 2 inch shells, and even a little larger is alright if they're fast-burning streamer stars. I've found that about 45 stars fit, which is around 20g (atleast for the stars I was using, which were C8 + 10% Ti). As far timing goes, between 1.5 and 2 seconds is good, even 2.5 might be fine. It all depends on how high you want your shells to burst. One last bit of information that may be useful is that a shell of this size uses about 4 grams of BP hulls (my hulls are coated 4:1). Andres1511
I make a lot of 2" ball shells, I just love them. Cheap en still really beautiful, with a bit of experience they break nice, hard, and even. I time them on 1.8s, they break perfectly at the apogee. My stars (cut) are around 5x5mm, That's approximately 1/5 of an inch. That's for colors, glitters and streamers, but the slow burning ones like TT. I don't like the fast streamers. As burst I use fine pulverone. I think the 2 inchers are too small for rice hulls and similars things.
schroedinger
The max timing should be about 2 seconds and stars not bigger then 6 mm stremers 8 mm. After that they just take to much space.Brake charge either straight bp and some booster ot H3 coated on to millet hulls 4:1.For light charcoal stars you need about 15 - 25 g and for metal stars about 40g. LiamPyro
For me, BP on hulls with a booster seems to work just fine. I can't say much though, as I've only made five shells and fired two. Back to star size... it depends a lot on the intended effect of the shell. For color stars, I'd be tempted to use 3/16" or even 1/8" mouse turds to achieve a nice filled-in peony (I have never tried this).
burningRNX
I use meal coated grass seeds, granulated meal, meal coated perlite (screened to right size) they all work fine in 2" boosted with a pinch of F or granulated whistle rocket fuelMCRH seems to be to big for my tasteCollor stars around 5 or 6 mm primed to 7 or 8 mm
