LiamPyro
I made an interesting discovery just now while testing a couple batches of charcoal stars (cut and pumped) for dryness. For the record, the mixes were C8, TT, and C8 + 10% Ti. Anyways, I tapped a star from each batch with a hammer on concrete 'till they broke, and discovered that the inside surface of the stars had a rough, slightly sparkly texture. Keep in mind, I have always and continue to use hardwood air float for all my stars. My first assumption was that they weren't quite dry (they had been drying for a while) as past batches of stars sustained more hammer hits and broke like ceramic, with the inner surface being very smooth. I then remembered that I had milled my past batches of charcoal stars for around 8-10 hours, while these batches were milled only 30 mins. What I think this means is that smaller particles created by longer mill times results in harder stars. With that said, I do make my own dextrin and was using a different batch then than I am now so that could be playing a role in this too. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
